Downtown 81 - Music from the Motion Picture

Soundtrack to the underground film that starred a 19 year old Jean-Michel Basquiat, before he became the internationally renowned artist that we know today. The character he played in this film was close to his own in real life, an artist trying to sell his work. The film serves as a window to one of the most exciting periods in New York's art history, featuring appearances from Deborah Harry and Basquiat's own band Gray. The Soundtrack includes tracks from some of the best artists of the time like Kid Creole and the Coconuts and their sideman Coati Mundi (aka "Sugar Coated" Andy Hernandez), the Lounge Lizards, James White and the Blacks, DNA, Tuxedo Moon, Lydia Lunch, The Plastics (From Japan), Suicide and many others.
