Drunk Injuns were one of the early pioneers of 80s California skate rock, which mixed the punk rock sound with skater mentality. The band wore Native American garb and masks, and played while seemingly possessed by the Indian ghost warrior spirit entities. The mystic messages conveyed through these spirits were said to speak to the center of the audiences' souls.

The first release was a cassette tape, "My Dad Butch," limited to 400 copies and first available at the SkateRock Show (May 30, 1983) then later through mail order.
