Their debut album. Simple yet complex, stripped then layered, Battles is unlike anything heard before. Comprised of simple computer blips, keyboard rhythms, looped and grooving walls of guitar, and precise backbeats, Battles is confronting new ground and dissolving any possible comparison. Battles is headed by Ian Williams (who you might recognize as frontman for Don Caballero and Storm and Stress) and John Stanier (the Swiss timing machine behind the kit, formerly of Helmet). Dave Konopka on guitar and Tyondai Braxton on guitar and keys round out the band. Each member contributes a unique and focused ingredient to the compositions; when brought together the music resembles foreign folks songs, hyper jazz, intelligent rocs...simply put, this is the next level shit.
