2001, Anisette
Pinknoise pop from The Lassie Foundation, by our reckoning the finest
retrospacepop band on Planet Earth! 'El Dorado' is a soundscape uncharted,
where ethereal harmonies and curvaceous 60s psych-pop mysticism are sown
with undulating guitars and a looming, seismic bass. Head over heels in
love with Phil Spector’s studio alchemy and Brian Wilson-inspired
harmonies, deliciously woozy and wavering, while their gush-and-geyser
high-tension instrumentation is all about early Creation Records’ shoegaze
shimmer, updated with even more grandiose baroque-pop arrangements… Where
the bombast is orgasmic and the quiet interludes mean as much as those
filled to overflowing. Their sound evokes their favorite subject: the
beautifully flawed Southern California, fiery sunsets, madly criss-crossed
freeways, sand and sea shadowed by the silicon cities of industry. The
Lassie Foundation features a former member of Starflyer 59, current members
of Cush, Charity Empressa, The Hot Stuff, and more. While the Lassies
recording “hiatus” continues, we immerse ourselves in their latest creation
and the individual members find inspiration in their untogetherness…
