At this point, they had toured for years and had a solid sound down, so after releasing two independent albums, they moved to Dischord Records for their first nationally released album. ~ Bradley Torreano, All Music Guide[more]

Fake French, El Guapo's second Dischord release, brings brash art-punk to the post-millennial dance floor. Largely self-recorded in numerous sessions over six months, the album elicits comparisons to groundbreakers Devo, Suicide, Kraftwerk, and Gang of Four. El Guapo have been touring to much acclaim both in the USA and Europe and have proven beyond any doubt that guitars need not be the only weapon of a punk sensibility. El Guapo was born as a two-piece in Washington, DC in 1996. Through the last five years and various instrument/lineup changes, the band has continually blurred the lines between art-punk and the avant-garde. For super/system, El Guapo's brilliant Dischord debut, the band (now a trio) recorded a collection of heartfelt pop tunes, irresistible dance tracks, and whimsical improvisations.
