Hot Hot Heat has scorched the college charts and warmed the hearts of critics with its most recent pair of indie albums. Now Canada's favorite band makes its major-label debut with Elevator, produced by Dave Sardy (Helmet, Oasis, Red Hot Chili Peppers). With Elevator, Hot Hot Heat is on its way to the top with an album that, keeping with superstition, purposefully has no 13th track. "Where Nirvana resuscitated unfashionable influences such as Black Sabbath, Hot Hot Heat resuscitate unfashionable influences such as The Cure and XTC. Both emerged with addictively catchy songs, and both had their recording contracts bought out by major labels." --LA Weekly

Customer Reviews

Megan StahlHot Hot Heat's latest album Elevator is amazing. It begins with Running Out of Time, a hyper, catchy number with a great beat. Then comes Goodnight Goodnight, the short and sweet first single, and then Ladies and Gentlemen, a slower song that is very unique. The album continues with the addictive You Owe Me An IOU, with which you can't help but sing along. Next is Jingle Jangle, a contemplative, beautiful jive. Track 8 is the insanely catchy Pickin' it Up, a sort of repetitive song, but wonderful all the same. Personally, I love the bass at the beginning. Next is the greatest song on the whole album: Island of the Honest Man. This song is amazing. It is so diverse and catchy, oh so catchy! You'll be proud of yourself once you've figured out what on earth singer Steve Bays is singing at the beginning... I know it took me a while. :) The next song, the single Middle of Nowhere, is possibly Hot Hot Heat's most popular song, as it was featured on the OC, One Tree Hill, and other shows. It's a relaxed, spiffy ditty, with some great keyboard and guitar. Dirty Mouth is a clever song with some great vocal harmonies, and Soldier in a Box starts with some ace guitar and the vocals are wonderfully reminiscent of Steve Bays' yelps from 2002's Make Up The Breakdown. The second to last song on the album, Shame On You, has a sui generis quality to it that is unmatchable. It has a bit of a dark tone, but of course it is still purely Hot Hot Heat. The album title track, Elevator, starts with some neato piano and drums, then introduces guitar and bass, making for a unique intro. The lyrics are very elevator-like, and this song sums up the album real well. In conclusion, this album is well worth your money. Buy it.

Ashlie WhitakerThe album, Elevator, is a follow-up of the smash hit Makeup the Breakdown, and is also Hot Hot Heat's current album. This album has a groovy mix of 12 songs and each one is very unique and you'll find a reason to fall in love with every single track. Running Out of Time starts off the album with a quick beginning and is very catchy. Next is Goodnight Goodnight, Hot Hot Heat's short but definately sweet first single which is very addicting. The next song is called "Ladies and Gentleman" which includes a bundle of witty lyrics that you'll enjoy. Next was the "talked about but never actually became a single," You Owe Me AN IOU which is exciting and fun which will make it tough not to sing and dance to. Following that track is Jingle Jangle, a very beautiful song. We all wonder how frontman, Steve Bays, maintains his beautiful voice throughout the Hot Hot Heat albums. Neverless, Jingle Jangle is still amazing. Pickin' it Up is a repetitive song, that sometimes gets annoying, in my opinion, but I still love it along with every other track. Steve Bays sings a fast beginning on Island of the Honest Man and his words are hard to understand the meaning but once you're smart enough to figure it out, you'll have more respect for the lyrics. Middle of Nowhere, another addicting single was played on FUSE like crazy and had a really neat video that you'll come to enjoy. Next, Dirty Mouth is a personal favorite, the instruments, the vocals, the lyrics, everything about that song will make you jump for joy. On a more serious note, Soldier in a Box talks about a lonely man who "serenades himself 'cause nobody's there" and it will make you think and also has a wonderful piano part towards the end. Shame on You is a crazy song that starts out loud and is a great sing along. Last but not least, the 15th track, Elevator. It's a slower song but also a beautiful song with such thought out lyrics it's a great end to Elevator!
It's definitely worth your money, I promise you, you'll be crazy over this album.
