2009, Future Farmer
VINYL FORMAT. This release is a must in the growing Ward catalog and is now available for the first time in a two 12" vinyl edition. After two world tours with Giant Sand supporting his first effort Duet for Guitars #2 (released on Howe Gelb's record label) and a cover of one of his songs on a Grandaddy EP, Matt Ward (ex-Rodriguez) went back into the studio to up the ante. A superb collection of country-folk songs, always rooted deeply in the American folk guitar tradition, but with a slightly Lychian feel to it. There's a strange fifties-ish atmosphere and a dreamy nostalgic mood in this album that makes it very special, more reminiscent of timeless classics (Nina Simone, Townes Van Zandt, Bob Dylan) than of any contemporary songwriters. Features members of Norfolk and Western, Lambchop, Giant Sand, Old Joe Clerks, and Operacycle.
