"Enon's second album, High Society, is something of a homecoming for the band. Dave Sardy's See-Thru label issued their debut, Believo!, but for their follow-up, the group moved to Touch & Go, the home of John Schmersal's former band Brainiac, as well as that of Blonde Redhead, of whom Toko Yasuda used to be a member. Combining elements of Tom Tom Club, Love, early Cure, and a flash of Japanese pop and punk esthetic, Enon sticks them together like some kind of artful mix tape. Disco-guitar-pop getting beat up by dirty synths, sedated electro-punk drums and made nice by girl/boy vocals. Put on your sneakers and bend those knees to these tunes.

Lost Marbles and Exploded Evidence might look like a duck, walk like a duck, and sound like a duck, but that doesn't mean it won't goose you. Sure, this is a limited-edition collection of songs from Enon, past and present, but it's not a simple compilation per se. These songs span the history of Enon, from a humble beginning as John Schmersal's musical musings in 1998, through the mid-period four with Rick Lee, up to the trio (with Schmersal, Toko Yasuda and Matt Schulz) we know and love today.< [ read more ]
