2005, Esquimaux
Esquimaux started as a studio side project for Heather, Graham and James while they were each on hiatus from their other bands. Heather had been singing with Gary Jules for 2+ years previous, opening for such artists as Jack Johnson, Beck and Sheryl Crow. When Gary signed with Universal his band was temporarily trimmed down and Heather waited in the wings while Gary went on a world tour accompanied only by drummer/vocalist Al Sgro. Al also happened to be one of Graham's writing partners for his band Sex O'Clock, so with Al gone Graham approached James with an idea to collaborate on a new project while James was waiting for his band, Cockeysville, to have their first demo mastered. Graham and James conceived of Esquimaux late one night at local L.A. eatery "The House of Pies", and met up with Heather later that same night to run the idea past her. What followed was a steady stream of collaborative songwriting that would occupy the next four months of their lives.
