2007, Self Released
If you have ever longed for the heyday of dusty seven-inches, or the resurgence of college radio, boy genius is here to bring you back. Recorded at Park Slope's Seaside Lounge with Josh Clark (Beirut, New Pornographers), the band's debut, Eureka highlights the band's focus on creating anthemic pop music that relies on both the 80s indie rock and 60s pop songwriting as benchmarks for their sound. While the album uses traditional rock instrumentation as its foundation, the dynamic male-female vocal harmonies, layered piano and organ arrangements, percussion, handclaps, and soaring trumpet leads are what make Eureka's five tracks impossible to get out of your head.
Whether it's the narrative verses giving way to sing-a-long choruses delivered by frontman Jason K, the melodic guitar leads of Christopher Amann or the buoyant energy of the rhythm section anchored by drummer Lisa K and bassist Jeffrey Mensch, boy genius delivers on every track.
