2005, Polyvinyl
Their sophomore Polyvinyl full-length. Michigan's own greasy haired heartthrob, Fred Thomas, is the indie rock generation's answer to the masterfully crafted sound walls and legendary arrangements of Phil Spector, Brian Wilson, and George Martin. The '60s pop vibe that runs through the band's catalog is still prevalent, but there's also a new undercurrent flowing between poetry and desperation. This is their most lyrically astute, flawlessly arranged, and fully-realized work to date. Note: the LP version contains different instrumentation, mixes, arrangements, and vocalists than the CD, although the track listing is the same. Both formats will contain inserts explaining the differences between the two.
