2009, Emeritus Records
Everything Is Fine by current Portlandite (is that how you say it?) Leviethan (aka Levi Cecil) is limited to 500 hand-numbered copies! It was recorded over two years with help from Adam Raitano and Ali Ippolito (Heroes & Villains), Scott Magee (Loch Lomond), Anna Fritz (Portland Cello Project), and William Joerz (Nick Jaina Band).
"The album's a progression from Cecil's first release, 2007's Monuments in Memory of Nothing So Far, a mostly solo collection of quiet bedroom folk. Most of the tracks on Fine, by contrast, were recorded with a live band and feature a fuller sonic palette. Still, the recording retains an insular feel, its skewed pop songs at times recalling Built to Spill's tempo-shifting epics, but recasting that band's widescreen guitarscapes into a cloistered studio atmosphere (Cecil, like BTS, hails from Boise). Elsewhere, Cecil's tenor harmonizes with his high falsetto, conjuring a one-man Yo La Tengo. Cecil - who performs as Leviethan, fusing his first and middle names - recently ended a five-year stint as bassist for esteemed Portland band Heroes & Villains." - Jeff Rosenberg (Oregonlive.com)
