2005, Arena Rock Recording Company
The genesis of this ambient instrumental project took place at a small Hollywood speakeasy, where Bauhaus and Love & Rockets founder, David J (Haskins), was in residence with his seminal Cabaret Oscuro. The project featured various special guests, one of whom was Joyce Rooks, a classically trained cellist with a punk rock calling and avant-garde heart. In the audience that night was mastering maestro, Don C. Tyler. Inspired by the atmosphere of that evening’s production, Don approached David with the idea of creating an album of instrumental music that would be evocative of childhood. Three weeks later David, Don and Joyce set about recording Evocations. The music was conceived as a soundtrack for an imaginary movie, set in a place where the mist rises from dreaming lakes as fireflies trace out a phosphorescent arabesque amongst the drifting reeds and children live out their imaginary lives, intoxicated by the pull of a waxing harvest moon.
