2000, File 13
From mood comes melody. From Jeff Garber and Jeff Dimpsey's initial efforts toward a musically divergent outlet from their respective mainstays in Mid-West legends Castor and Hum to their ultimate realization of permanence, comes National Skyline's Exit Now CDEP (FT34). The duo's mutual admiration of the more memorable moments of 80s dark-pop and Warp-esque electronica singled them out of the Champaign, IL music scene and into Dimpsey¹s home studio where they wrote and recorded the seven songs of meticulously programmed beats and guitar-layering that comprise their self-titled mini-album. Establishing residency at a new loft recording studio soon after Skyline¹s summer 2000 tour (sans Dimpsey, with the addition of new Skyliner James Minor of Compound Red), Gaber began composing the "Exit Now" EP from songs roughly sketched on a dictaphone kept on the dashboard of their tour van.
