2000, Tigerbeat6
'Exitos, the latest and greatest full length from Brad Laner, best known for fronting the seminal My Bloody Valentine-meets-Can unashamedly rock group Medicine whose many releases on the Def American and Creation label left many shoe gazers chins stroking and ear's tingling at just how much you can subvert the standard four piece indie pop group formula. As well as many other projects like Amnesia, Personal Electronics, Steaming Coils, Savage Republic and many others. The three previous Electric Company full lengths on Def American (A Pert Cyclic Omen), Island (Studio City) and Vinyl Communications (Omakase) proved Mr..Laner's abilities to beautifully twist jaded electronica and ambient pop musings all into one experimental epic of no less than seventy minutes, but Exitos showcases a powerful new change of pace for him, subverting 4/4 dancerhythms and grainy glitch-hop funk into the most accessibly twisted Electric Company album to date. Created with treated guitar and all the cracked software he can fit into his powerbook, Exitos is filled with a new sense of rhythmic and melodic structure similar to artists like Kit Clayton, Chain Reaction, Farben or Monolake but with the cut and paste hard disk composition aesthetic of Mouse On Mars, Mego/Farmers Manual, Pluramon, Dat Politics and Kid 606. Imagine Atom Heart jamming with Vladislav Delay. Probably the most surprising musical progression in the Electric Company discography, open your ears and your minds and your hearts to it.'
