2004, Clairecords
VINYL FORMAT. Sciflyer’s debut album “Fair Weather Karma” follows hot on the heels of their two sold-out self-released EPs. Sciflyer began in 1998, right after guitarist/singer Steve Kennedy played in Estuary with Chris Streng (now of Stratford 4). The band imploded after only one show, so Steve and his wife Kim connected with drummer Larry Campos to form what eventually became Sciflyer (Roger Chandler came aboard as drummer in late 2001). “Fair Weather Karma” is a collection of songs recorded over the past year or so, usually recorded at home on the band's semi-vintage eight-track machine. The album runs the gamut between dreamy blissed-out shoegaze, up-tempo fuzzed-out space-surf, and good old-fashioned indie-pop. The vocals are mixed low, until they become just another whirr in the heavenly Sciflyer psychedelic haze.
