(Falling from) The Nutty Tree, the debut long player from enigmatic Bristolian Zoon Van Snook, playfully treads a fine line between the ostensibly gleeful and affably sinister echelons of the Oddtronica spectrum. Chopped, clipped and pulverized beats, tacit vocal samples, found sound and curious field recordings provide the rhythmical backdrop to an accompanying plethora of plucked, chimed and slapped instrumophones. Jazz-flecked piano chords and bucolic melodies of layered ukuleles and accordions combined with the throb of glitched-out synth lines create an infectious journey through Zoon's left-of-center electrickery. With nods to the likes of Four Tet, Boards of Canada and Múm, (Falling from) The Nutty Tree is a warm, humorous and hook-laden sonic collage of kitchen sink eccentronica. Zoon van Snook is the alias of Bristol weirdsmith Alec Snook. Following keyboard/sample duty for numerous experimental indie bands in the South West of England, which included support for acts such as Skunk Anansie, I Am Kloot and BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe, the debut Zoon Van Snook 12" EP was released on acclaimed Brighton label Cookshop at the end of 2008. Never afraid of a beguiling melody and always blurring the lines between experimental and accessible, Zoon Van Snook produces evocative audio mosaics which offer something new with each listen.
