2004, March
Todd Fancey (the guitarist/keyboardist for NEW PORNOGRAPHERS) releases his debut solo record, full of driving Wurlitzer pianos, crunchy guitars, "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" string arrangements, and lovely backing vocals. "Fancey" is sunny, bouncy, but also has a certain sadness to the lyrics. With a grown-up sound that reels you in with its infectious melodies and delicious arrangements, it evokes the Beach Boys, Todd Rundgren, Emitt Rhodes, and The Association…it's classic rock for the indie set. This is more than just a New Pornographers side project -- it's a stunning beginning to a long road of perfect pop albums.
