2005, Fat Cat
Following 2004's widely acclaimed Sung Tongs album and more than a year of snowballing momentum, Animal Collective return with an eagerly-anticipated new album - a truly stunning, inviting, often heart-warming experience. Feels is the band's seventh album to date and, as has come to be expected, sees them again kicking off from their previous release to explore another different direction. Where Sung Tongs was largely acoustic-based and the product of just two members of the Collective (Avey Tare and Panda), Feels is in contrast a full group effort (also including Geologist and Deakin). Moving further away from the suggestion of folkish affinities (they always sat in their own space, came at things from a different angle), it is electrified, rhythmically more urgent, and overall a considerably denser work. Those sweet melodies and big catchy hooks remain intact, and the songwriting is once again bold, brave and adventurous, as ever indelibly stamped with their own unique personality.

"Grass" may be one of the most perfectly skewed 2 minute pop songs with its distorted yelps and shouts and infectious melodies and that's not even the best song. A friend of mine described Animal Collective's music as "breathing" - that it just has this pulse that gives it its own life. Please buy this album and everytime "Grass" comes on just shout along.

Loony, abostolutely loony, but absolutely musical. And absolutely top 5 favorite albums. Amen.

I HAD to write a review for this one! BUY THIS ALBUM! Everyone who's reading this has probably had their interest peaked by "Grass", so I advise you all to BUY this right away. You will not be disappointed at all. And after you buy this, buy "Prospect Hummer", which is Animal Collective featuring Vashti Bunyan. You will never have a problem getting ready for the day again, cause this is some peaceful stuff!

The best Animal Collective album yet. At first, you'll think it's the craziest, weirdest album you own. But after another listen, you start to hear more influence from pop music (more, not a lot) on tracks like "Grass" and "The Purple Bottle", which are the highlights of the album, along with closer "Turn Into Something". The middle gets slower and more dreamy and relaxing with songs like "Banshee Beat" and "Loch Raven" which are both over 6 minutes long, but still manage to be interesting. The whole album is fantastic, and a must have for any Animal Collective fan or really any indie fan in general. I thought I'd hate it but it's now one of my favorite albums.
