1998, Parasol
Following the critical success of its debut If They Know You're Trying EP (available from Parasol), Vinyl Devotion underwent some growth that resulted in different kinds of songs. The repertoire expanded to include more diverse material, though based on the same rock elements as previous batches of tunes.
On this platter, experience eerie distortion ('Forcefield') seconds after compelling new-wave synth (the cover of Opal's classic 1984 indie hit 'Fell From the Sun'). Hear sounds ranging from the lush and bittersweet ('Arriving Late and Going Fast'), to the satisfying fuck-everything Sex Pistols guitar ('Always In Tears'), to good old heavy rock-o-rama ('Waste Me Now', 'Digital Noise').
Recorded bi-coastally in San Francisco, California and Kernersville, North Carolina, Floor Model features a variety of sound which align to form a big, cohesive entity. Mostly produced by the legendary Mitch Easter at Fidelitorium Recordings, the disc features cameos of friends from San Francisco fixtures The Loud Family.
Vinyl Devotion is girls and guys who like to play music, talk about music, and as a band requirement, drink beer. But materialism and revelry are not the sole focus. This food-centric yet slim band enjoys after-practice faves of grilled cheese with french fries and gravy. You can tell a lot about people by what they eat.
