2001, BaDaBing!
Hawksley Workman's record is finally going to be available in the States
after a barrage of accolades in the U.K. and Canada. This 24 year-old
Toronto musician/producer was already making a name for himself, having
worked behind the boards for Tegan & Sara (whose record recently came out on
Vapor Records), as well as Sara Slean (whose album is coming out this Spring
on Atlantic). However, his true talent lays in his own music, which he
writes, performs and records almost completely himself. Hawksley carries
the musical grandiosity of David Bowie, the panachÈ of Pulp, and dare it
even be said, the vocal tendencies of Thom Yorke. 'For Him And The Girls'
has already been praised as a masterpiece, with production on a scale to
rival The Flaming Lips and a stylish intimacy not seen since Tim Buckley.
He'll be playing live dates all over the country throughout 2001, with a new
record scheduled to be released on an as-yet-unnamed larger label with
deeper pockets. Hawksle
