2004, Smalltown Supersound
One of Kim Hiorthøy's trademarks is his use of field recordings and environmental sounds in his music. As XLR8R Magazine explained in their Future Folk article, "Hiorthoy`s album 'Hei' is characterized by the random, ramshackle sounds heard around the house: refrigerator doors opening, answering machine messages, pots and pans clanging. But where Matthew Herbert, Akufen or Matmos might transform these sounds into virtually untraceable items, Hiorthøy leaves them as they are." These "noises" are very important to Hiorthøy's music, and he's been collecting them for a long time. Surrounded by this mounting collection, he decided to do an album of only sounds -- no music. The result is "For The Ladies." A different release maybe, but also an important element of Kim Hiorthøy's work. The album comes in slim-line card packaging with a booklet of beautiful drawings as well as a poster.
