2011, Loaf Recordings
Ben Butler and Mousepad (aka Joe Howe), the new electric wizards on the block, unleashes their debut album Formed for Fantasy. Inspired by concepts born in Philip K. Dick's hallucinatory mind, this hybrid of old and new celebrates UK wonky-pop culture and the urban London bass scene. Howe throws in a bit of prog rock musicianship in the vein of Magma and Goblin along with good ol' funkadelic grooves, and wraps it up with the sound of the new Scandanavian skweee craze. It's out of this world but you still can move your feet to it. Recorded in various European locales (Rotterdam, Berlin and Darmstadt), Formed for Fantasy features guest vocalists Momus, Bobby Birdman and Vice Cooler (from off-the-wall groups Hawnay Troof and XBXRX). This is sci-fi music - one doesn't have to believe in biorhythms to dig it.
