Goody Goody [Collectables] (CD)
Frankie Lymon's solo recordings, which he began making in 1957 while still recording and touring with the Teenagers, never really took off the way many expected. He had a lone hit, the rollicking "Goody Goody" in 1957, but otherwise not much else. Partially it may have been the material his producers chose at first, cutesy show tunes and standards like "Over the Rainbow" and "Glow Worm." More likely it was that his time was just over. Either way, his solo career was a flop. Collectables' Goody Goody rounds up "Goody Goody" plus nine other songs, none of which are hidden gems, all of which are pleasant kiddie pop. Too bad this budget entry wasn't beefed up with more tracks in order to provide a definitive look at Lymon's solo recordings. As it is though, it's probably all the casual fan will need. ~ Tim Sendra, All Music Guide
