1999, Scientific
One-half of Junior Communist Club, Peter Ducharme, penned the track "Jung at Heart," which was made enormously popular in a Volkswagen commercial where its beats are matched to the rhythms of the street-people walking, a basketball dribble, windshield wipers travelling across glass. The other half of Junior Communist Club, John Dragonetti, has recorded in a band called Jack Drag, releasing three self-produced albums on indie label Hep Cat before getting in bed with A&M for the album Dope Box. The two together, in their most indie incarnation, are Junior Communist Club, a Beck-ian duo of analog jesters who combine the melodies of indie rock with the sampling ethos of hip-hop to produce gummy, satisfying, layered music. Their debut album on Scientific is Freedom of Speed, a foray into indie rock's future. LIMITED pressing.
