2006, Marriage Records
The Poison Dart gets their name from the diminutive poison dart frog, one of the most poisonous animals on earth. But have no fear: The Poison Dart makes music that is much tastier than a deadly dose of frog venom. A cross-border collaboration between members of the Department of Safety project in Anacortes and International Falls in Langley, BC, The Poison Dart crafts songs about things both material and immaterial. This collaboration has recently produced the band's first album, Get Hot, an indie-pop delight. The vast majority of the album was recorded in the analog realm: a oneinch sixteen-track tape machine in the basement of a farmhouse in rural British Columbia. The album includes a host of instruments and musical happenings such as harmonies, gang vocals, epic guitar, piano, drum fills, handclaps, and horns. The Poison Dart's influences are varied, and include Neil Young, Elvis Costello, Bob Marley, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Fleetwood Mac, and Thrush Hermit. The Poison Dart has played throughout the Northwest with bands such as The Microphones, Thanksgiving, Laura Veirs, The Forms, Run Chico Run, Y.A.C.H.T., and Sound Stories. The members of the band can also be found backing up Phil Elverum (Mt. Eerie, The Microphones) live and on record.
