Gez Varley
After LFO all but disintegrated in the late '90s and Mark Bell went on to produce for Bj÷rk and others, the other half of the duo, Gez Varley, began his own solo career with a 1997 album for Studio !K7. After fans of LFO's 1991 Frequencies LP (still one of the most respected electronic albums of all time) waited over five years for a follow-up, the end came soon after LFO's sophomore album, 1996's Advance. Varley's early adulation of hip-hop and electro -- including Juan Atkins, Mantronix and Arthur Baker -- came through loud and clear on his first solo record, Gez Varley Presents Tony Montana. Bayou Paradis appeared in spring 2001. ~ John Bush, Rovi
