2011, Fast Weapons
VINYL FORMAT. New War, blooming from their own strange corner of Melbourne, Australia, have spent the last couple of years simmering in their own alchemy, plotting. Featuring former members of cult bands Shoplifting, Bird Blobs and Sir, New War have quietly amassed a loyal audience, sharing the stage with the likes of Wire, Gossip, Laughing Clowns and Jandek, all on word of mouth. Ghostwalking, produced by Lindsay Gravina, is their first recorded document: a terrifying, gorgeous, transportive song that manages to be both four people in a room and four people hovering in... over... outside the world. Its magical realism as song, an anti-escapist dream, a fully realized introduction to a band as compelling as they are compelled. Expanding the song's parameters are a remix each by GOSSIP and HTRK. The former's a lush dancefloor spellbinder that builds on the vocabulary of their Fever Ray remix, while the latter's almost a black hole, vast and aching, like a film noir dragged over millenia. Taken all together, New War's debut 12" is a complete statement, something to genuinely lose yourself in. Their debut full-length Calling From the Inside will follow in March 2012. Fast Weapons are proud and excited to introduce New War to the world.
