2010, Downtown Records | Fool's Gold
Hailing from Japan, all-girl four-piece The Suzan present their international debut album, Golden Week for the Poco Poco Beat, through Fool's Gold via Downtown Records. The Suzan's LP is the first full-length release from trendsetting DJ A-Trak's Fool's Gold imprint. Having worked as Kanye West's personal tour DJ, A-Trak has previously introduced the world to the likes of Kid Sister, Lupe Fiasco, Kid Cudi, Duck Sauce and Armand van Helden. However, A-Trak isn't the only high profile convert to The Suzan's boundless energy and irresistible charm. They captivated Bjorn Yttling of Peter Bjorn and John so much that they convinced them to produce their album with a MySpace message. Then the Scandinavian love continued: Swedish indie sweetheart Lykke Li lent her vocal cords to the swaggering rock gallop "Devils." Consisting of Saori (vocals/guitar), Rie (guitar/keyboard), Nico (drums) and Ikue (bass), The Suzan are already attracting an adoring following around the globe. First single "Home" is a three-minute blast of xylophone riffs, surf guitar, and tom tom grooves; it is sweetly funky, hard-to-pin-down pop in the vein of ESG or early Violent Femmes, and sets the stage for the rest of the LP. Golden Week bounces from the effervescence of "Home" to punky outbursts ("London Tonight"), moody jams ("Into the Light"), and everything in between. Prepare to be won over by one of the most unique groups out there!
