2009, Sound Fiction
VINYL FORMAT. Sounding like early nineties shoegazer bands fused with indie Americana, Golden City is a veritable laden ship of
beautifully textured hits and anthems. For someone who misses emotional hardcore when it was still more indie than metal, Golden City is a treasure chest. Eric Richter's now loud and open vocals glue with the naked and precise
instrumentation perfectly.
"Cavalry" is a dynamic row of beautiful parts, all worthy of singing along to. I know of few other bands that can make songs as simple and soulful as this though it's tempting to compare this to bands like Snow Patrol, Dinosaur Jr and Buffalo Tom.
"Brighten" may be more naked and less vague than Christie Front Drive, but it still sounds like a missing link between Richter's past and present. Many will feel a sting of nostalgia when the first guitar tones, carried away by a soft chorus, take us through a long buildup to a large and perfect crescendo (and all via vocal melodies that will take weeks to get out of the system).
This is a 500 ex. limited and hand numbered edition. The cover illustration is by the very talented Lizzy Stewart.
