Grimes is the alias of Claire Boucher, a Montreal-based, Vancouver native, artist. Grimes fuses contemporary instrumentation with classical vocal practices from around the world.
She recently released a split 12" with D'eon titled Darkbloom. In 2010 she released a cassette titled Geidi Primes and the full-length Halfaxa through Arbutus. In 2012, she will release Visions, a full-length which is being described as "post-internet" by Grimes herself.
Boucher, born in Vancouver, Canada, came to Montreal in 2006. Her experience as a performer is deeply embedded in the illegal DIY loft culture of Montreal, where Grimes was one of the prominent figures in the scene surrounding Lab Synthèse – a 4600sq ft re-appropriated textile factory.
