Health
Not to be confused with the similarly named indie electronic band from Los Angeles, Health are a quintet from Greensboro, NC, and they play traditionally minded music with a spacy, post-rock experimental edge that keeps them from being just another group of Uncle Tupelo wannabes. Health were formed by singer, songwriter, and guitarist Jonathan Moore, a budding traditional folk musician who had dropped out of Greensboro's Guilford College to pursue his musical career. Moore hooked up with fellow former student and folk aficionado Anna Murray, a singer and keyboar...[more]

In addition to evoking grand hyperboles from every blog under the sun, HEALTH's album inspired several other musicians to match the band's creativity. They reimagined, recut, and remixed, and the result is HEALTH//DISCO. Featuring remixes from Crystal Castles, Acid Girls, CFCF, Pink Skull, Thrust Lab, Narctrax, and more, these tracks take HEALTH's ethereal chanting, screeching noise, and gauzy atmosphere and forcefully apply them to the dance floor. The CD also contains an enhanced DISCO+ portio [ read more ]

Instead of finding a room where the only thing you can hear is your heartbeat, HEALTH recorded their debut LP in one of their favorite places. The Smell is an all ages music venue in downtown Los Angeles. It is open and brick and dirty and dark, but when you sing a church hymnal or hit a drum as hard as you can, the sound is beautiful. They also went out and found equipment born at the same time as The Smell. Mostly ribbon microphones designed by the BBC for 1930's radio broadcasts - things George Martin l [ read more ]

YELLOW VINYL FORMAT. With their heart-stopping tribal beats and dramatic tones, HEALTH, will be making a new push aimed towards the DJs with the release of their new 12" single, which features the track "Heaven" and some very dance-able remixes of it. The remixes come from Narctrax (of Tokyo) and Pink Skull (of Philadelphia), who seem to do HEALTH justice with their takes on "Heaven".

VINYL FORMAT. Los Angeles quartet Health seamlessly intertwine a noise rock pastiche with an element of ritualistic drone that is chalk full of raw synth, hauntingly gripping vocals and topped with drums that effortlessly build from monotonous dredging to spastic fills. This single features two electrifying versions of the hit track "Perfect Skin," and is the first installment in a series of 7" releases for SUICIDE SQUEEZE in 2008.

Health is real American music. The weird, old music of drunken colonists, steel bit confederates, self-educated gentleman slaves and whiskey-stained maps followed upside-down. As long as parts of America remain wild this music will be around and bands like Health will play it. The germ of Health formed when Jonathan Moore, a young song-writer from Maryland, split from the green, green campus of Guilford College in Greensboro, NC. After a month or two of study and academia, Moore packed up his acoustic guita [ read more ]
