2004, Level Plane
Straight from the rat infested sewers and dumpsters of deepest darkest Brooklyn, New York comes this brand new slab of furious hardcore from one of the genre's finest and grimiest, BOOKS LIE. They recall the golden years of punk rock when anger and humor worked together to express a desperation sorely missing from the modern hardcore scene. Drawing from a variety of influences and spewing forth punk in the vein of SWIZ and TSOL, this quartet has added a modern flavor to their sound in the shape of new vocalist, Jeremy, who brings an air of chaos and frenzy to the already pissed off formula. Imagine mid 80s fast angry hardcore punk with a 90s, Gravity Records-style vocalist and you would be getting close to the monster sounds contained herein. Hall of Fame of Fire is the culmination of 4 years of basement shows, crappy vans, 4 US Tours, 1 European tour, breakups, layoffs, and regrettable tattoos from four kids with masters degrees and no health insurance. Forget A.R.E WEAPONS and forget Electroclash; this is what Brooklyn is really all about. And if you don't agree, you'll find BOOKS LIE lying in wait with middle fingers pointed skyward.
