Band is fronted by Matt Focht, drummer of BRIGHT EYES, as well as other core members of MAYDAY, plus touring members of those bands. All those members (between seven and 10 at last count) have created songs with ambitious arrangements, layers of vocal harmonies, interactive melodies, and pure energy with a surprising cohesiveness. There's a huge element of playfulness in their melodies and they use their powers of 'rock orchestra' to the most ROCKING extreme.

Hysterical Stars is a twisting, weirdly catchy record with a mix of dense and delicate arrangements that outshine their four piece indie rock contemporaries. This record is for fans of Arcade Fire. Brian Eno, Beulah, Flaming Lips and other sophisticated makers of pop music.[ read more ]

Two years after their SpinART sophomore release Hysterical Stars, Head of Femur releases its third full-length, stripping down to a more accessible five-piece. However, the group still manages to stay true to its ambitious trademark sound, lacing together art-rock sensibilities reflective of the Talking Heads and the organic, homegrown feel of Neil Young and The Band.
