_____ of 1500 (Book)
When concertgoers attend select concerts at the Burlington, VT venue Higher Ground they leave with more than just the memory of their concert-going experience. They also leave with a limited edition, hand silk-screened poster commemorating the performance, created by award-winning JDK Design's nonprofit Iskra Print Collective. And it's free.
"It's a memento and a thank you," says Higher Ground's founder and co-owner Alex Crothers. A new book entitled ____ of 1500 (the limited-edition books are hand numbered, hence the title) is now available showcasing 121 of the aforementioned concert posters created by 49 different JDK/Iskra Print Collective designers. Each book features a unique hand silk-screened cover and reprints of concert posters created for more than one hundred artists who have performed at Higher Ground since it opened in 1998, including Sleater Kinney, Gregg Allman, Sonic Youth, Herbie Hancock, Elliot Smith, George Clinton, Public Enemy, Bright Eyes and more. The book celebrates the 10-year collaboration between Higher Ground and JDK with high-quality fourcolor poster reproductions, a stunning layout and an annotation from each of the poster's creators. JDK has been designing concert posters for Higher Ground since the venue opened in 1998. At the time, Crothers and partner Kevin Statesir wrote a letter to JDK's creative director Michael Jager. "We proposed the marriage of music and cutting edge design, wherein they would have complete creative freedom," says Crothers. "Jager called the next week and said 'When do we start?'"
