2008, Epic
Insound Staff Pick - 2008! For over a decade, indie rockers LOVE AS LAUGHTER have been mixing eclectic
musical influences and blending them into a unique defining sound. Love as Laughter's distinctive sound can only be described as a melting pot of flavors of artists such as the Beach Boys, Jimmy Buffet, and Neil Diamond. Jayne and company first began releasing albums in 1996 on the K label before moving to the
Sub Pop label in 1998. For their newest album, Love as Laughter made a careerchanging move to Isaac Brocks' (lead singer of Modest Mouse) Glacial Pace imprint on Epic. Backed by producer Joe Blaney (Clash, Ramones, Keith Richards, Tom Waits), and recording in New York City's West Village, Love as Laughter created the supernaturally inspired HOLY. The band has delivered a variety of contrasts to create a complex and thought provoking musical experience. It's this mélange of content - old and new, living and supernatural, holy and profane - that makes Love as Laughter's new material the best they've ever recorded and finds the band poised on the precipice of their next major wave of creativity.
