Mitchell Akiyama is a relative newcomer to the minimal/IDM scene, with a self-released debut and a compilation appearance on his own Intr_version imprint. Coming from a jazz background, Akiyama has a great sense of melody and rhythm. On "Hope That Lines Don't Cross," he blends elements of idm, minimal techno and dub and fuses them with field recordings of broken conversations, drones, and church bells. The outcome leaves little doubt that Akiyama will very quickly establish himself as a major player in electronica.
Akiyama also has an excellent sense of rhythm and melody and a fantastic knack for creating memorable music. "Hope That Lines Don't Cross" runs for 60 minutes and is broken up into 10 different tracks. Some of the pieces are so heavily built around pop aesthetics that you could easily get away with referring to them as songs. This release is packaged in a custom designed gatefold card stock jacket and beautifully printed on matte paper stock.
