2004, Small Town Supersound/Bubblecore
The EP Hopeness marks the return of Kim Hiorthøy after two years of touring (documented on the upcoming live album Live Shet), making three books (one with drawings, one photo book, and a novel), several videos, working on his graphic design, holding a few exhibitions, and shooting two films. Hopeness contains five new Kim Hiorthøy tracks and is meant to build a bridge between his seminal and critically acclaimed debut album Hei and his second "proper" album, due sometime in the autumn of 2004. Hiorthøy's debut Hei (2000) and Melke (a collection of remixes, 7"s, rejected tracks, and tracks for compilations, released in 2002) got rave reviews all over the world. XLR8R Magazine even placed Kim Hiorthøy at the forefront of the new electronic folk music movement, together with artists such as Herbert, Matmos, and Fourtet. On Hopeness, Hiorthøy continues to create pop music in his very own and unique way; mixing folk-music, hip-hop, jazz, electronica, and found sounds. Everything with beautiful, lush, and melancholic melodies.
