ARTIST MAINARTIST INFORELATED ARTISTSLINKSREVIEWS

Beginning as a noisy, synth-based combo in 1999, Victoria, British Colombia's Hot Hot Heat evolved into an aggressively catchy indie rock band two years later, when keyboardist Steve Bays took on the vocal duties, and guitarist Dante DeCaro joined their ranks. Following close on the heels of their critically acclaimed Knock Knock Knock EP, Make Up the Breakdown is Hot Hot Heat's debut full-length, recorded with Jack Endino at Vancouver's Mushroom Studios. SPIN Magazine had this to say about the band: "Some retro new wavers hang themselves on their own skinny ties. While their peers lip-synch to Cure 45s, these Canucks take subtler cues from early-'80s synth disco. It's not new wave worship; it's the sound of punk teaching itself to dance." Heat as force of change. Hot Hot Heat have transformed from within the confines of their tense, angular synth-rock beginnings while losing none of their sense of urgency. Hot Hot Heat has scorched the college charts and warmed the hearts of critics with its most recent pair of indie albums. Now Canada's favorite band makes its major-label debut with Elevator, produced by Dave Sardy (Helmet, Oasis, Red Hot Chili Peppers). With Elevator, Hot Hot Heat is on its way to the top with an album that, keeping with superstition, purposefully has no 13th track. VINYL FORMAT. Canada's top modern rock outfit makes its major label debut, produced by Dave Sardy (Oasis, Dandy Warhols, Red Hot Chili Peppers). "Where Nirvana resuscitated unfashionable influences such as Black Sabbath, Hot Hot Heat resuscitate unfashionable influences such as The Cure and XTC. Both emerged with addictively catchy songs, and both had their recording contracts bought out by major labels"--LA Weekly.
