Thunder Down Under (CD)
Hot Snakes, one of the biggest bands on Swami, consisted of members from Rocket From The Crypt, Drive Like Jehu, Blackheart Procession, Beehive and the Barracudas. Album caught on tape in Australia at Triple J for Radio Broadcast, recorded by Grammy nominee Greg Wales (Radio Birdman, You Am I). All recordings unreleased (some songs appear in different form on past records). These are the last studio recordings before the band broke up.

| Respect is a funny thing. Many people probably respect this band for crafting their unique brand of rock for years without ever compromising or making a weak song, much less entire album. Really, what other band could boast anything similar. Even Drive Like Jehu, who contained some of the same members, folded just after two albums, leaving their legacy a fraction of what the Hot Snakes left behind. But respect doesn't equal album sales or even escape from obscurity. Most people have never even heard of the Hot Snakes and for that, I pity them. Having just recently announcing their demise, the band most deserving of accolades seems destined to remain the undergrounds best kept secret.
''Thunder From Down Under'' is the final album from the Hot Snakes. It is also a live album, culled from radio appearances recorded in Australia. Despite the potentially damaging ''live album'' designation, this is still a solid release, despite that many of the songs are available elsewhere in their ''true'' recorded format. All potential criticisms of the format aside, you will never have another chance to experience the almighty Hot Snakes in a live setting ever again, making ''Thunder From Down Under'' a must buy CD. | |
