2010, Vanguard Records
VINYL FORMAT. 'Outlaw-country legend Merle Haggard is back with his staggering 76th album, I Am What I Am, his first for Vanguard Records. As much a declaration as a promise, the album's twelve tracks feature his backing band, The Strangers, as well as his son Ben on lead guitar, and his wife Theresa, who sings on the duet "Live and Love Always." Other tracks include "Oil Tanker Train," "Bad Actor," and "Stranger in the City." Haggard's got as much skill as Johnny Cash, and this seems to be the career booster he deserves.' - Craig Hubert / Prefixmag.com
