2006, Astralwerks
I Killed My Best Friend is the debut album from Le Volume Courbe (French for 'The Volume Curve'), a trio of London-based musicians lead by French expatriate Charlotte Marionneau and inspired by the do-your-own-thing ethos of Nico, Patti Smith and Yoko Ono. After moving from France to London Charlotte Marionneau began composing and making tracks, receiving vital encouragement from musicians like Mazzy Star's Hope Sandoval and David Roback, My Bloody Valentine's Kevin Shields and Colm O'Ciosoig, all of whom contribute to the record. Most of it was recorded at home. It's a lo-fi punk record, but punk in attitude rather than in musical style. It is a strange, otherworldly concoction of sounds filled with fragile vocals and haphazard guitars, flowing like an enchanting and elusive diary of dreams.
