Indie folk-pop band Ida formed in New York in 1992 around the core duo of singers/guitarists Daniel Littleton and Elizabeth Mitchell. Littleton emerged in 1985 as a member of the Annapolis, MA-based punk group the Hated; after their 1989 demise, he continued in a series of bands including Three Shades of Dirty, Choke and Slack, which also featured future Tsunami frontwoman Jenny Toomey. Mitchell, meanwhile, first began performing as one half of an acoustic duo with singer/songwriter (and fellow Brown University alum) Lisa Loeb; both Mitchell an...[more]

When Ida released Will You Find Me (Tiger Style) to overwhelming critical praise in the summer of 2000, word was already out about The Braille Night. Ida had recorded enough material for two full length albums while signed to Capitol records, and the second album The Braille Night was a few mixes away from completion. Following 6 months of touring in support of Will You Find Me, Ida stepped out of their van and back into the studio to put the finishing touches on what is now their fifth full-length, [ read more ]

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! EXCLUSIVE! Quiet-core New Yorkers Ida started releasing records in 1994 with "Tales of Brave Ida" on Simple Machines. Mistakenly labeled "folk rock," it took years of constantly touring punk dives and house parties to clue the American rock scene into the truth about their beautiful, dense, dissonant, sad, and sublime musical language. A brief relationship with Capitol Records allowed for an unheard of and nearly infinite amount of recording time for extreme artistic experimentation. A [ read more ]

This is their first full-length in nearly four years. Taking cues from On The Beach-era Neil Young, Heart Like A River dives from whispered strums to righteous drone and overdriven solos while managing to reference the '70s sounds of Joni Mitchell and [ read more ]

Thirteen songs from 1997. Very mellow music, sometimes a bit poppy, sometimes a bit experimental, sometimes a little reminiscent of mid-America rock (Uncle Tupelo, etc). Varies between male and female vocals. Quite exceptional.
