I'm Always Recovering From Tomorrow

SUBTITLE is to hip hop what THE LOCUST are to punk rock - that is, fucking-shit-up, from the inside out. A veteran of the L.A. underground who's shared stages with ANTICON, CANNIBAL OX, AESOP ROCK, SHAPE SHIFTERS, and LIVING LEGENDS, SUBTITLE has accumulated something of a cult following around southern California over the past five years. As a solo performer, collaborator in the WEEKEND SCIENCE EXPERIMENT and with his current part-time project, LABWASTE, SUBTITLE has been a noteworthy presence in the hardcore, and largely overlooked, L.A. subculture of intellectual and progressive musician-MCs, purposely limiting his output to obscure CDRs and cheap cassettes. Despite the constant interest of established hip hop indies, many of whom he disregards as purveyors of cookie-cutter bullshit, SUBTITLE has labored in virtual secrecy while refining his style, recording and re-recording tracks endlessly until just right. He's spent the last 12 months in a windowless, 8' X 8' storage closet shotgunning soda and bong-hits, crafting beats and samples and basically shunning every established cliche, norm and standard practice relative to what we'd typically call "hip hop". Naturally, we are humbled to have made his acquaintance and are seizing the opportunity to document some of his work, beginning with I'm Always Recovering from Tomorrow.
