In 2003, the multi-media festival, Crossing Border, invited Solex to do a performance together with the Maarten Altena Ensemble, famous for its contemporary music. For that special occasion, Solex made a piece out of MAE's classics while Altena rearranged a couple of Solex tunes. Solex brings in sparkling melodies, nervousness, and hooky rhythms, and MAE developed as a strong, experienced, dedicated, and stern outfit. It's this almost academic combination that makes this session so interesting; mathematics with an uneasy groove.
