2003, Insound
Insound is very proud to announce
the release of tour support vol. 27. As always
this CD is limited to 1000 copies - available
only through insound.com and the band.
These exclusive tracks were recorded 2000-
2003 by dylan magierek (Mark Kozelek, Erlend
Oye of Kings of Convenience, James Hindle)
and ill lit. The last track is a cover of Dwight
Yoakam's "since i started drinking again."
Beautiful. Containing the best elements of
vintage Americana and electronic
cut-and-paste sonic pastiches, ill lit's debut
album WACMusic turned the perfect pop song
on its head.
Based in Los Angeles, ill lit is the brainchild of Brooklynite Daniel Ahearn joined by fellow New York emigres, Benjamin Provo (bass) and Jens Fleming (drums). All three are students of writing, film and music, have written and scored indie films, published poetry and short stories and produced plays. Ill lit's unique construct of ambient home-recorded noise serves as background to a more traditional rendering of folk/country music. The resulting sound is inspired. WACMusic is a sonic marvel - earnest vocals tinged with honeyed twang rising over the soothing white-noise of loops, beats and a battered boombox. Add to the mixture lyrics that seem to have sprung from the mind of Hunter Thompson and Cormac McCarthy's bastard love-child and there you have what is so appealing about the band. ill lit makes music that is both fantasy and disillusionment, loyalty and revolution, broken-hearted but ever hopeful.
