1999, Parasol
New BUSYTOBY magic from WOLFIE duo Joe and Amanda, who (between getting
engaged and Wolfie tours) have been immersed in their 'Pet Sounds' boxset,
you can just tell! A bit of indie-pop theater for you: this album was
written from the perspective of Joe and his wife Amanda as elderly
grandparents looking back on their lives together, which is a nice touch,
where's my hankie? Delightfully twee and mellow and fun and filled with
delectable vocal harmonies, bunches more of Amanda's petite singsong vocal
and more of King Joe's home-studio wizardry, plinky keys and buzzy guitars
and droney organs! Joe still has plenty of vocal appearances and there's
some girl/guy vocal sparring, playing footsie, like Sandy and Danny in
'Grease'! Convincing all with a dreamy 60s girl-group nonchalance that
would make PHIL SPECTOR proud, lofi enough to be charming, polished just so
by Joe, enough to be an absolutely killer pop record, no surprise!
Carbonated pop for fans of The ESSEX GREEN, (HERSCHEL SAVAGE &) The AMERICAN
FLAG, LADYBUG TRANSISTOR and, um WOLFIE! Gosh we're close to Xmas aren't
we? It's time to get BUSY!
