2004, Chairkickers' Music
Don't be fooled, kiddies. This is really the band LOW in disguise. There is a neighborhood is Duluth, Minnesota called Central Hillside. If anything tragic, depraved, or just plain bad happens in Duluth, you can bet it will happen there. What most tourists don't realize, as they sip strawberry malts on the rocky shore of Lake Superior, is that they are only three or four blocks from a knife in the back. Every town has such a neighborhood, I suppose. But do not fear, because on the other hand, Central Hillside includes the boyhood home of Bob Dylan, the famed Sacred Heart Church, and now The Black-Eyed Snakes. In the fall of 2001, what has become known as "The Central Hillside Sound" will be introduced to the rest of the world with the release of "It's The Black-Eyed Snakes" on Chairkickers' Music. It's a mixture of what the young people call "punk" and the tried-and-true sounds of early electric blues. Listening, one could only ask "Is this the blood and screaming of the birth of rock-and-roll, or is it the writhing squeal of its death? Surely it is nothing less!" Even the selection of covers ranging from Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf to The Fall and Moby reflect this dichotomy. Chicken-Bone George plays the guitar and sings, Big House Bob plays guitar, and Smokin' Brad Nelson plays the drums.
