After performing in the Andrew Cash Band in the late '80s and early '90s, Collett joined Ursula, an alternative rock spinoff of Cash's previous group. The band toured Canada and opened up for acts such as the Odds. But after several years in the music business, Collett decided to give the profession up for a few years.
By the mid-'90s, though, the music bug was still in his system. A former short-order...[more]

Here's To Being Here captures the essence of Jason's live performances and features the energy and musicianship of his touring band, Paso Mino. "This is very much an old school guitar record, in the sense of it being very tasteful and that's one of the greater accomplishments of this record" says Collett, "recording in bigger spaces and live off the floor allowed us to capture some of the band energy. This allowed for spontaneous creations, which led to many wonderful little accidents." Here's To Being Here [ read more ]

This collection of rugged roots rock gems, which dropped independently last November but was picked up by local superhip indie Arts and Crafts (see Broken Social Scene), is a marvellously intimate feat of singer-songwriting craft on a par with Ron Sexsmith's best work. Toronto community-builder and sometime Broken Social Scenester Collett has culled the best tracks from a handful of earlier self-released discs, resulting in an album of top-drawer songs that rock quietly (as on the excellent Choke Cherry, wi [ read more ]

Toronto man-about-town Jason Collett unfolds his sleeve to reveal a happily bleeding heart on this collection of material from past releases. Collett's voice is brimming with warmth, and he has a cigar box full of stylistic implements with which to accompany it. Together with a gaggle of talented pals, he sells his material at a reasonable and honest price. It's like a set of pleasantly this-or-that rockers on a late-night left-of-dial radio station.

Since the release of his second album, 2003's Motor Motel Love Songs, singer/songwriter Jason Collett has kept himself busy writing and recording with his music family in Broken Social Scene. In the midst of completing and releasing their self-titled masterpiece in 2005, Collett resumed his solo career. Idols of Exile picks up where the bittersweet melodies of Motor Motel Love Songs left off.
