Watch Me Fall (MP3)
Following, a slew of single releases last year and a compilation on Matador Jay Reatard releases his first full length on the label.
Sure he's in debt to Flying Nun and current power pop bands when it comes to influences on Watch Me Fall, but what Jay Reatard brings to the table in his independently developed DIY song writing skills is still immediately and undeniably recognizable as his own.
The songs are still as catchy as hell and lyrically as dark as ever. 'You Were Sleeping' has been reworked and roughed out for the album, sounding even lonelier than the single released before, if that's possible.
Where some bands may struggle with reconciling alienating early fans by developing their sound but wanting to progress musically, Jay Reatard has just gone for it and it pays off. Watch Me Fall is only a taster of what's in store for things to come. Jay Reatard is just warming up.
